Mail Time

"Now it seems strange
How we used to wait for letters to arrive
But what's stranger still
Is how something so small can keep you alive."
-Arcade Fire, "We Used to Wait"

Well, this isn't news for many people, but I love mail--both sending and especially receiving it. Maybe I get it from my dad who collects postcards. I don't know. But I have wandered around the Prague airport, trying to scrounge up enough money to send postcards to people. And I had penpals last last year that I didn't even wait for responses--I just sent them letters when I felt like it.

What I like about mail is that it isn't fleeting. I keep all the letters and postcards sent to me in an envelope and I love looking at them. Especially here in Arizona, away from everything I've known. It's a comfort to see familiar writing and friendships written down. And it's always exciting to see my mailbox not empty. Today, I had two letters and a package and it honestly felt like Christmas. It's nice knowing that people are thinking of me and can take the time to handwrite a letter. So keep sending them, friends! And I'll be sure to mail you back.
