So today, my mom and I went to lunch with my grandmom. I went partly for the lunch and partly for the unknown amount of time left. My grandmom is leaving her house of 60 years to move into an apartment in a retirement community. At first, she was very mad and upset about it, but now I think she accepts her children's decision. I'm going to miss her house--and all the memories contained inside.
"I
could have told him to learn from Gatsby, from the lonely, isolated
Gatsby, who also tried to retrieve his past and give flesh and blood to a
fancy, a dream that was never meant to be more than a dream."
Don't you hate it when you misplace/lose/can't find something? Today, I wanted to wear my navy stripped shirt but I COULDN'T FIND IT ANYWHERE. I looked through my drawers, my closet, my sister's stuff, my mom's stuff, my brother's stuff. Not my dad's stuff, so that must be where it is! I have no idea where it could be. I brought it home from school so my mom could wash it. But I don't remember putting it away. If you (my shirt) are reading this, please come back to me. I miss you and want to wear you. However, on a positive note, I found a pair of shorts I never knew I had. Yes!!
If any readers see this shirt, PLEASE let me know and return it. Thanks.
Ever since I saw the preview for Moonrise Kingdom, I have been obsessed. I can't wait for it to be in theaters. Any mention of it gets me excited. Therefore, to prepare myself, I have decided to devote this Memorial Day weekend to the films of Wes Anderson. Oh my goodness--so excited.
So my friend Kristen (who is going to be my quad-mate next year!!) is working at a summer camp in Georgia for six (?) weeks. She is a gazillion miles from home so we decided to be pen-pals. I got her first letter yesterday! I was so excited. It was very Kristen-like and the perfect letter ever. I was so excited to 1. get mail 2. get a letter from Kristen and 3. read the letter. Just the way she wrote it made me smile! Oh my goodness, I cannot explain it at all.
Anyway, here are some facts about Georgia, in case you wanted to visit Kristen and impress the Georgians:
Fourth state admitted to the Union on January, 2 1788
State fish is the Largemouth Bass (I didn't know state fish existed?)
State flower is the Cherokee Rose
State bird is the Brown Thrasher
State motto is "Wisdom, Justice, and Moderation"
Largest state east of the Mississippi River
The nation's largest producer of peanuts, pecans, and peaches
I have been to Atlanta for the 2002 Final Four in college men's basketball
So I am currently reading the book Fire and Rain: The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, James Taylor, CSNY, and the Lost Story of 1970, by David Browne. I don't really know much about the history of the musicians but this book has helped a lot. Anyway, here is one of my favorite Simon & Garfunkel songs. Enjoy!
There has been a ton of construction on my street the past week. It hasn't kept me from sleeping my mornings away. I don't feel productive at all when I wake up at 10 or 11. Half my day has slipped away. Anyway, I had to park my car on the other block during the day. But when night rolled around, I could move my car back to the driveway. It was cloudy all day, with the rain picking up around 2ish? So it made for some interesting pics, especially in the dark. My camera is very stinky but I think these still turned out quite oddly/goodish, I guess?
Anyway, so I have had a full week of reading and movies. Ever since I cam home two Thursdays ago, I have finished six books (although Fantastic Mr. Fox took my a half hour to read). All were very good, actually. I read three John Green novels--one even was indirectly about girls named Katherine. Everything is Illuminated was a mix of sadness and funnies and confusion. The only disappointing one, if I had to pick, would be Battle Hymn of a Tiger Mother. It was not as extreme as I thought it would.
But, the highlight of my week was my trip to the Ambler Theater to see "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel." First off, the theater (and its neighborhood) is stunning. I didn't get to walk around Ambler but the main street seemed like the place to be on a Wednesday afternoon. The theater itself is charming--three screens, a 2:00 matinee for $5, and an old-time movie theater feel. Before the movie came on, I watched a PowerPoint about the going-ons in Ambler; it felt homey and welcoming. Second, the movie was very good. I recommend it to anyone. It made me want to travel to India and also allowed me to see in the perspective of the elderly. Speaking of which, I was the only person under 65 in the theater. I don't know if it was because it was a matinee or because of the movie, but it was a tad uncomfortable with all those older people! I enjoyed it nevertheless. Oh, I know a couple people who have never heard of the film. The trailer is below to enjoy. Go see it!!
Okay, well it is finally here: this my blog. My decision to blog comes from two sources: my philosophy professor this past year and a vlogger. My professor journals; he has since he was in college himself. I want a place where I can store my thoughts on various things. Additionally, the vlogger that I previously disclosed made a video stating rules for vlogging. One of those was to do it for yourself. I think and hope that this blog will be for me, a place for my thoughts. Anyway, I merged my two muses and voila! decided on a blog. So after a week of deliberating and losing sleep over it, I finally decided on a title: Awfully Small Adventures. My inspiration came from a quote I saw. Here it is: "To live would be an awfully big adventure." I figured that, although I live (technically speaking), I really don't have a hugely adventurous life. This blog will be to chronicle my relatively ordinary life--hopefully it inspires to take a step toward an awfully big adventure!
