Some people have been bothering me to take them to Ambler. Now, as a disclaimer, I really enjoy going to Ambler because of its small town feel and great movie selection. I probably go once a year to a "normal" movie theater like AMC or Regal and I probably go to Ambler at least 15 times. So just to put that in perspective. Some people, for example my brother, would not enjoy Ambler because they don't show big blockbuster hits. While they do show some movies that people recognize, most of the time I just receive blank stares from people when I tell them what I saw.
Anyway, after a year and after many weeks of bothering, Elise and Mike respectively journeyed to Ambler to see Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. Dan, probably my movie-viewing-partner-of-choice, also came and made me feel less awkward about being the third wheel. And Dan bought me Mike & Ike's so thank you. Afterwards, I felt like Mike and Elise didn't get the full Ambler experience--we didn't get to see the slideshow of ads before the previews, we weren't in a relatively empty theater with a bunch of old people, and we didn't see Art in the Storefront across the street. But I think everyone enjoyed the night and the movie.
So Me and Earl... is a high school movie with a Wes Anderson flair to it. Greg (Me) is forced to hang out with Rachel (the Dying Girl) by his mother but soon a friendship blooms. Even though Rachel suffers throughout the movie, the movie is very funny. Greg is super awkward and Rachel is extremely real and you can just relate to the movie in some way. While some may cry (you know who you are), a lot of times everyone was laughing. I really liked it. Now I just have to go read the book.
OH MY GOD- "my movie viewing partner of choice"-- "made me feel less awkward." THAT PERSON SOUNDS LIKE A BEST FRIEND
