Fruit Picking

Today's trip took me to New Jersey to see my friend Catherine. She just spent the last year or so in El Paso, working in an all boys high school. Now she's back and offered to take me to pick-your-own-fruit at Johnson's Farm. First, we were probably the only people there who weren't little kids or their moms. We rode the hayride to the blueberry bushes. It was a lot harder than I thought but still super fun. They said not to eat the fruit but we did anyway. I hope we don't get sick (or die) from eating them--they supposedly used pesticides! Eek. Next stop was the string bean patch and finally the cherry orchard. The string beans were abundant while the cherries were mostly gone or gross. I was lucky to find five good ones.

The farm had a marketplace, where they sold fresh produce and ice cream and cool food. For lunch, I had a chicken enchilada and a apple donut. So good. We illegally headed to the Animal Farm (we didn't pay) and saw goats, donkeys (Catherine thinks they are underrated), and cows. By the early afternoon, I think we were both tired of being in the sun and heat all morning. But we definitely have tentative plans to meet again before August--and I'll probably see her Tuesday.
