Lost Doorknob

This is what I came back to last Friday morning. I had slept at Kristen's and then went to ride the bike at the gym. When I came back around 9:30 am, I COULDN'T OPEN THE DOOR. The doorknob was missing. Let me explain something first. This door is hard enough to open when we actually have a doorknob. Now, with no doorknob, it was impossible. My one friend said to get pliers to open it. Umm, where was I supposed to find pliers? I tried the basement door but keys didn't work. I was beginning to panic because all my roommates were either sleeping like logs or not home. How the heck was I supposed to get in? And it was cold. Luckily, one of my roommates opened the door. But even now, almost a week later, there is still no doorknob! Good grief!

What I'm Listening To: Vampire Weekend

Okay, so I think I'm going to try Music Mondays. I listen to a lot of good stuff (well, at least I think so...) and sometimes I just want to share it with everyone!

So I've been listening to Vampire Weekend's newest album (Modern Vampires of the City) multiple times a day for a couple weeks now. Usually I request CD's from the library, load them on my computer, but never listen to them right away. I decided one day, hey, let me listen to this album. Let me say, it is great. Vampire Weekend's albums are all good and I always feel like albums get more mature (?) later on. But they always have catchy lyrics with intellectual references. So good. I don't think I can pick a favorite song. So many good choices.

Flat Cody Takes On B6

First, I'd like dedicate a HUGE shoutout to Kristen for letting me sleep over last night. What a sweetheart. At 10:45, she left her warm house to sign me in. And made me sleepy time tea, even though I had already brushed my teeth and I don't like tea. I actually got a good night's sleep for once this week. I think I have a sleep problem OR Kristen just makes me sleep well? Anyway, another shoutout to Cody for being in New York/Connecticut so I could sleep in her bed. You're an indirect lifesaver, pal. But please come back soon.

Anyway, Flat Cody got a little crazy over there in B6 and in the library. I guess she takes after her namesake...

First Impressions: Nebraska

So I discovered an amazing thing on my phone. I can set it to airplane mode and then use it to take pictures from the plane! Amazing, I know. I found this out a little too late to take a picture of the amazing Chicago skyline (flying into Chicago in the morning was gorgeous). However, here are my first impressions of Nebraska. Pretty flat, huh? And a little lack of color? I would love to go back to Nebraska in the summer. I wonder what it is like? 

Flat Cody Goes to Nebraska

Flat Cody has really seen a lot since her birth a few weeks ago. She traveled with me to Nebraska, although I know she had no idea what any of the talks were about. I'm not even sure she has ears. Although she was probably cold in Nebraska because she always wears the same outfit (eww stinky) and because she fell in the snow at one point. Oops.

So excited to be headed to Nebraska!

Katie, We're Not in Nebraska Anymore

This past weekend I went to Nebraska. Yes, Nebraska. The land of nothing and corn and flatness. I was there for a math conference (more on that later). Needless to say, I was pretty excited to go to Nebraska. I had never been there! Besides a ton of delayed flights, the trip was relatively pleasant. I flew into Omaha (like Omaha steaks and Mutual of Omaha) but spent the weekend in Lincoln, about an hour away. I didn't get much of a chance to actually see Lincoln but it seemed like a nice place to study and/or live. Our hotel was right on the edge of the University of Lincoln so I only got to see a little bit of the campus. For lunch on Saturday, we went to an Indian restaurant. It was so good. The naan (bread) was fluffy and delicious. We split two meals between three of us. I honestly don't remember the names of what we got but I would eat it all again. Ugh so good. Our walk from the hotel to the restaurant was about 6 blocks but it seemed like forever because it was 20 degrees and very windy. I want to go back to Lincoln but probably in the summer. I want to explore more!

What I'm Listening To: Inside Llewyn Davis

Okay, I know, I know I haven't been good about this. I've been sick and boring so those are mostly the reasons keeping me from exciting and small adventures. However, Cody was pestering me today to keep at it so here it goes.

So you know how I saw Inside Llewyn Davis back in January? On a unrelated note, I cannot believe it is February already! Well, the soundtrack is amazing and I listened to it on repeat for about a three weeks straight. I even got Cody hooked on it. I love it so much. Ugh. And Marcus Mumford sings on one song. So good. It is folky and catchy and lovely. And I just want to sleep on people's coaches and wear plaid and wear scarves in a gray winter. That is how the soundtrack is. Please listen. You won't be disappointed.
