A Hologram for the King

So this was an adventure. Karla and I left the library around 8 to grab some fro-yo. While we were sitting there, we spontaneously decided to go to the movies. But we needed a ride. We called Tim, Tola, Karla's uncle--all busy. So we took an Uber and saw the 9:30 showing. I think we were two of four total people in the theater, We then planned on going to Walmart to pick up a few things until we realized it was closed.

But we decided on A Hologram for the King mostly because of the timing but also because I had read the book over Christmas break. It's an interesting storyline, not great, but funny enough to keep you engaged. So a good pick when I wanted to forget about all the work I should be doing on a Thursday night.

Beer Birthday Party

Harley and I went to Dragoon Brewery to celebrate its 5th birthday--we got free samples of beer and cool party hats that were itchy. But it was nice getting out the library for once. There were so many kegs in the warehouse--unbelievable!

Favorite Feelings

Watch the video first. I've finally come up with 10 of my favorite feelings. It's definitely not exhaustive but here are 10 that I enjoy feeling:

  1. Tiredness after a long, hard run
  2. When I'm feeling sad and I tell someone and then they call you or come over
  3. Getting mail
  4. Not having anything to do and staying in bed all day and being lazy
  5. Remembering a feeling of a first day somewhere
  6. Getting an unexpected compliment
  7. When people (especially Kristen) play with my hair
  8. Laughing and smiling so much because I'm happy
  9. The first warm day in spring that reminds me of track season
  10. When people say stuff like "Classic Katie"

Afternoon at the Opera

Karla invited me to the U of A opera this afternoon. She knows the orchestra conductor so we were able to get free tickets. But the opera was about a man who falls in love with this wicked woman--she doesn't love him back and flaunts herself in front of him. She reads the story of Tristan and Isolde to the workers and he dreams of one day getting a love potion to turn her feelings around. Well, luckily, a medical man arrives in town and sells the man the love potion, which is actually just wine. And you can figure out the rest from there.

My biggest thought during it, besides wishing I knew more Italian, was whether I'd ever use a love potion to change someone's feelings. And I think I wouldn't. I would feel like like I tricked them and even though the feelings are now genuine, I think they would feel fake to me still. It's an interesting question.

Tucson Friends

Meet Karla--the first person I met in our cohort way back in August. We've become fast friends. I think the majority of the time I spend with Karla, either studying or at happy hour or trying to learn Spanish. She may drink coffee and like dogs but we are still friends!

Breakfast Adventure

A wild goose chase around Tucson to find a breakfast place. We planned on going to Bobo's but it was closed--when we first arrived, we thought, "Yay, no line!" So then we drove 30 minutes to Oro Valley for a sweet little breakfast place. My eyes were bigger than my stomach as I order three pancakes in addition to that gorgeous cinnamon bun. Well worth the drive to eat (a lot of) good food with good friends.
