Day at the Winery

Spent the morning picking grapes and sorting grapes and sweating in the Southern Arizona sun. It was gorgeous there on this little winery. And the grapes were small and cute but you had to watch out for bees because they were hiding in the bushels, ready to attack those unsuspecting pickers, aka Patrick. We were able to try some of the wine they produce and I managed a free wine glass so now Karla has something to drink all of her wine out of. A good day of volunteering at Hanna's Hill Vineyard with Patrick and his friends.

Balboa Park

The high school running nerd in me had to go to Balboa Park when we were in San Diego. And I realized there's a lot more to Balboa than just the zoo. It was the sight for a 1915 expo so there's many buildings in gorgeous architecture that now house museums. And on Labor Day weekend, it was packed. We strolled among the crowds and finally headed over to the cross country course. It reminded me of Belmont--just a course within a city park. Nothing special to it. And everyone seemed to be going about their day without knowing the significance of the course. It was kind of cool. Unfortunately, I still can't run so Patrick will have to bring me back another time!

Seaside

San Diego for the long weekend. Patrick showed me all around--and especially to all his old haunts. His grandparents live three blocks from the cliffs. You can see the ocean from their front porch. It's absolutely stunning. When we walked around on Friday morning, I think I had my mouth open the entire time. So beautiful. And you can walk down a precarious path to get to little beaches. Oh gosh, it's great.

Epic Cafe and Homework

Met up with Harley at Epic Cafe for some tea for me, coffee for her, and food and homework for the both of us. After a long summer with no Harley, we caught up and chatted about running and school and life and everything.

What I'm Listening To: Detectorists' Theme Song

I've been urged to watch Detectorists by my two friends in the economics department. Out trivia team is named after the show. The short one (Lance) and the tall skinny one (Andy) take us on their hobbyist adventure of using metal detectors to hopefully find some long-forgotten treasure buried in the English countryside. They makes enemies with two rivial detectorists who look like Simon and Garfunkel. They experience heartbreak and love. Anyway, I love the theme song. Take a listen.
